Render Stamp

Anyone browsing the Resources & Stock Images gallery will have noticed the growing epidemic of 'Renders'. This is the pretentious new name for cutting out found images, and uploading them as stock, to be used in things like wallpapers and 'GFX' (basically someone's artwork made a lot smaller).

As a general artistic term 'rendering' is defined as creating shading and texturing an image.
In a digital-art 3D context it is the method of generating an image from a three dimensional computer model.

Exactly how this bastardisation of the term 'render' began is unclear, but it probably started with people trying to take credit for 3D rendered artwork from games like Final Fantasy.

People seem to believe that using renders is 'rendering' in the same way that using paint is 'painting'. Now, bizarrely, the term is being applied to images that were never even renders to begin with such as photographs of celebrities.

Images from artists on this site are being used too, often after having been uploaded to render sites like Zerochan without permission. Render sites are not legitimate sources of stock images.

By this new definition of rendering, Pixar make all of their animation by cutting out images they found on the net!
